Home > Network Forensic ToolsIn practice there exist many large networks which are vulnerable to attacks and violation of organization policies. In such cases services of computer forensics play an important part. There are many network analysis tools available for monitoring and finding the computer criminal activities. One such example for network analysis tool is the DNA tool. Even the other tools such as Advanced Password Recovery toolkit can be a part of network forensics tool. Consider the DNA; it is considered as a new approach for computer forensics analysis. It is specifically designed for networks. The DNA stands for Distributed Network Attack. It is also efficient in the recovery of password protected files. Earlier the recovery was limited to the processing of a single machine. But with the advancement of distributed networking system the data recovery issues have also expanded. The technique involved with DNA is that it uses the processing power different machines across the network to decrypt the passwords. It is usually installed over the server. The installation of the DNA is usually carried out on a central location like for example the server. The purpose of such installation is that it provides machines that are running the DNA client to have an access over the computer network. There exists a DNA manager who is responsible for the coordination of attack by assigning small portions of the key search. It is distributed to the different machines spread across the network. Usually the process involves the running of DNA client in background. It is also advantageous since it utilizes only the unused time of the processor, since it is running in background. Some of the important features of DNA include the following. An important feature is the ease to read statistics and graphs. There is also the possibility and feasibility to add user dictionaries to it. Apart from these features the other includes optimization of password attacks for some specific languages. The user dictionaries that already have been added can also be customized. Stealth settings can be made which makes the task of the computer forensic professional by catching the criminal unaware. The software for network forensics analysis can be installed on the client computer system with the stealth mode on. The client computer system is unaware of the software that is present in his system. In this way there is more liability for the client user to commit the mistakes which can be utilized by the computer forensics expert. There is also the feature to update the software on the client machine with out his knowledge. This can be done while updating the DNA software. The software is so designed that it can be used to control most of the client jobs. For example it is capable of controlling on what the client works. Or it can be used for just blocking certain jobs that are not desired to be performed by the client user. The network forensics analysis tool can also be applied to the Storage Area Networks – SAN and NAS – Network Attached Storage. The requirement if any for data recovery over the network can also be performed using this network forensics tool. It is desired in a large network to utilize such forensic tools. |
